This Is Not the Same Picture

A photograph is often taken to hold onto a moment—a feeling, a person, a day, or an experience before it fades away. It gives us the feeling that something can be preserved and kept unchanged.

But when we return to an image years later, our connection to it is no longer the same. The memories around it shift, our emotions change, and the meaning of that moment moves with us. The photograph stays still, while our relationship with it continues to change.
